Gonads

The gonads are the testicles in the male and the ovaries in the female. The ovaries have internal secretions of hormones called "estrogen" and "lutein", the testicles have corresponding hormones called "androgen".

The respective hormones help each sex to develop and retain their secondary sex characteristics, and act to stimulate muscle tone and general well-being.In the female, the "lutein" hormone helps the fixation of the impregnated ovum in the womb. These hormones have been isolated and are now produced synthetically as remedies for underdevelopment of the sex organs and to relieve the symptoms incident to change of life.

They should not be used indiscriminately in such cases or as sex stimulants or rejuvenators, because of their cancerogenic nature.
